Personal Statement

“I am a senior lecturer and  researcher who specializes in Natural Products at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos, Nigeria.  I studied Biochemistry at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-ife, Osun-State, before bagging a Masters and Doctorate degree respectively in Natural Product Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. H.A.B. Coker from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos.   My Ph.D project, was conducted at IBERS, Aberystwyth University, Wales, United Kingdom on the isolation and characterization of an alkaloid from isolates of the mushroom: pheogyroporus portentosus using analytical chemistry techniques which included One and Two Dimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1D and 2D NMR), Fourier Transform Infra-red (FT-IR) and Mass Spectrometry (MS). I acquired further training on NMR, with grants from the Royal Society of Chemistry, (RSC UK) University of Manchester with Dr Ralph Adams , African Oxford (AFOX) , Oxford University, UK with Prof. Tim Claridge and TWAS-UNESCO ,University of Karachi, Pakistan, Prof Iqbal Choudhary. I worked on the structural elucidation of isolated compounds from Buccholzia coriacea (Wonderful kola). I have published 15 papers. I am the current General secretary of Chemical Society of Nigeria, (CSN),  a member of UK NMR Discussion group and Royal Society of Chemistry, (RSC) UK.  I have a keen interest in NMR methods, specifically to identify bioactive isolates from natural plants.”
