Personal Statement

“As an academic pharmacist and scientist, I am dedicated to performing basic scientific research that can provide complementary therapy towards improvements in human health, with particular interest in the improved management of cancer, cancer-related diseases, and contraceptives. My expertise in natural product research enables me to use scientific validation processes to characterize phytochemicals with anticancer, antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory potentials. My early research focused on the identification and characterization of phytochemicals as potential anticancer and anti-inflammatory agents using preclinical (in-vitro, in-vivo and in-silico) research models. During my research, I had acquired skills and knowledge to isolate and characterize potential anticancer phytochemicals from plant endophytes through a fellowship grant received from Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). As a recipient of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) postdoctoral fellowship, I isolated and characterized novel pure compounds from an established anticancer plant sample, which can serve as lead compounds for drug discovery and development. My role as a postdoctoral researcher/fellow under the Jeiven/ Med-Africa grant afforded the identification of potential contraceptive agents from medicinal plant that can be used by biological females.”
