Personal Statement: Background and Past Mentee Experience

As an academic pharmacist, I am dedicated to performing basic scientific research that can provide complementary therapy towards improvements in human health, with particular interest in the improved management of cancer, cancer-related diseases, and contraceptives. My expertise in natural product research enables me to use scientific validation processes to characterize phytochemicals with anticancer, antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory potentials. Through preclinical (in-vitro, in-vivo and in-silico) research models, I have been involved in the identification and characterization of phytochemicals as potential anticancer and anti-inflammatory agents.In the course of my research, I had acquired skills and knowledge to isolate and characterize potential anticancer phytochemicals from plant endophytes through a fellowship grant received from Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). These research findings were carried out with collaborative support of interdisciplinary co-researchers. Recently, I have completed a postdoctoral training on isolation and characterization of bioactive plant metabolites and novel compounds with potential of development into pharmaceutical product for health benefits were discovered.
